Tribute to veterans

Veteran's Day, Patriot Park, Palm Springs, California

"We were in Palm Springs having breakfast out. Looking out the window, I saw many people
carrying flags...LOTS of flags. We went over there and talked to folks. A man at a podium
read the names and ranks of soldiers who had died in recent wars. It was now 11 am. They
would be reading names until 11pm. For each soldier, a flag was brought out and placed on
one of the rods. Over 5000 would be displayed by end of the day. People lined up to take
flags from truck--scouts, past soldiers, current soldiers in uniform, patriotic citizens.
We got in line and placed some flags. It was very emotional for both of us. Sure, we knew
soldiers have died... but being there, seeing all the flags, hearing the names...wow..."
